چکیده

Supernova 1006 is the first shell type super-nova remnant to show evidence of particle acceleration to TeV energies. In the present paper we examine this possibility by modeling the observed X-ray non-thermal emission in terms of synchrotron radiation from Fermi accelerated electrons. The predicted synchrotron spectrum fits the radio and non-thermal component of the observed soft X-ray to hard X-ray emission quite well. These particles can produce TeV gamma rays by inverse Compton scattering on the microwave radiation and other ambient fields, and the derived electron distribution is also used to calculate the expected inverse Compton flux. We find that if the remnant is characterised by a magnetic field strength lower than ∼ 7µG, then the TeV flux can be higher than that of the Crab Nebula. About 75% of the TeV emission from SN 1006 is expected to be concentrated in the synchrotron bright NE and SW rims (the " hard aegis ") of the remnant, which would allow a sensitive search if the Atmospheric Imaging Cherenkov Technique is used.

On the origin of TeV radiation of SN 1006

We discuss the link between the nonthermal X-radiation and TeV γ-ray emission from SN 1006, and study the capabilities of both electronic and nucleonic models for explanation of the TeV flux observed from the northeast rim of SN 1006. We show that the interpretation of the TeV radiation by the inverse Compton scattering of electrons on 2.7 K cosmic microwave background radiation is possible, ho...

On the Origin of Galactic Cosmic-Ray Electrons

We present the RXTE PCA X-ray spectrum of SN 1006. This data exhibits evidence of highenergy non-thermal X-ray emission. An analysis of the RXTE PCA data and data from the ASCA SIS and ROSAT PSPC detectors suggests that the entire broad-band X-ray spectrum of SN 1006 may be t with a single non-equilibrium ionization thermal component and a nonthermal component described by a broken power law wi...

Reanalysis of Data Taken by the Cangaroo 3.8 Meter Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope: Psr B1706–44, Sn 1006, and Vela

We have reanalyzed data from observations of PSR B1706–44, SN 1006, and the Vela pulsar region made with the CANGAROO 3.8m Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope between 1993 and 1998 in response to the results reported for these sources by the H.E.S.S. Collaboration. Although detections of TeV gamma-ray emission from these sources were claimed by CANGAROO more than 10 years ago, upper limits ...

Modelling Hard Gamma-Ray Emission From Supernova Remnants

The observation by the CANGAROO experiment of TeV emission from SN 1006, in conjunction with several instances of non-thermal X-ray emission from supernova remnants, has led to inferences of super-TeV electrons in these extended sources. While this is sufficient to propel the theoretical community in their modelling of particle acceleration and associated radiation, the anticipated emergence in...

Study of the TeV gamma - ray spectrum of SN 1006 around the NE Rim

The differential spectrum of TeV gamma rays between 1.5 TeV and 20 TeV from the northeast rim of SN1006 was obtained from the data observed in 1996 and 1997 using the 3.8m CANGAROOČerenkov telescope. This spectrum matches the model calculated using the Inverse Comp-ton (IC) process with 2.7k Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). This enables us to estimate the absolute strength of the magnetic fie...
